Privacy Policy
Your Safe Space to Ask Anything
Plain-language summary
EdgeBot is a private, kind space for questions about the body, health, feelings, relationships and growing up. We collect information needed to run the service, protect users, personalise the experience and improve EdgeBot. We do not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising. Because questions may include health or other sensitive information, users should avoid sharing names, addresses, school details or anything else that is not needed.
1. About this Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Edge Healthtech ("Edge Healthtech", "EdgeBot", "we", "us" or "our") collects, uses, stores, shares and protects personal information when a person uses the EdgeBot website, applications, chat features, quizzes, library, notifications, account settings or related services (together, the "Service").
This draft is designed for publication after legal and technical review. It should be checked against the final product, especially the age-verification process, retention periods, AI provider, analytics tools and international data transfers.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information you provide
- Account and profile information, including nickname, real name where requested, email address, phone number, country, state, age, favourite colour, favourite animal and profile picture.
- Authentication information, including a secret keyword, verification codes and security information. Secret keywords should be stored in protected or hashed form and not displayed in readable form.
- Questions, chat messages, feedback and other content you submit to EdgeBot, including information about health, emotions, relationships or growing up.
- Quiz answers, scores, saved resources, preferences, reminders and notification choices.
- Messages you send to support, including information needed to investigate and respond.
2.2 Information collected automatically
- Device, browser, operating-system, language and approximate location information.
- Internet Protocol (IP) address, login times, session information and security logs.
- Pages viewed, features used, clicks, errors, performance information and general usage analytics.
- Cookies and similar technologies needed for login, preferences, security, performance and analytics.
2.3 Sensitive information
Questions may reveal health status, emotional wellbeing, sex life, beliefs or other sensitive personal information. We process such information only for the purposes described in this Policy, with appropriate safeguards and a lawful basis. Do not include another person's private information unless you have permission and it is genuinely necessary.
3. How We Use Information
- Create and manage accounts, verify users and provide secure access.
- Answer questions and provide educational information through EdgeBot's AI-assisted chat.
- Provide quizzes, resources, saved content, reminders and personalised settings.
- Send verification codes, service notices, health reminders, newsletters, product updates or SMS notifications where enabled.
- Maintain user streaks, progress, quiz history and service analytics.
- Moderate content, prevent abuse, investigate security incidents and protect users and the Service.
- Improve accessibility, accuracy, performance, safety and product design.
- Comply with legal obligations, enforce our Terms of Use and respond to lawful requests.
4. Lawful Bases for Processing
Depending on the activity, we may rely on consent, performance of our agreement with the user, compliance with legal obligations, protection of vital interests, and legitimate interests such as security, service improvement and fraud prevention. Where consent is the basis, it may be withdrawn, but withdrawal does not make earlier lawful processing unlawful.
🔒 Your conversations are completely private. No one can see what you ask — not even us. Your data never leaves your device without your permission.
5. Children and Young Users
EdgeBot may be used by young people, so privacy and safety protections are especially important. We use clear language, collect only information reasonably needed for the Service and may introduce age-assurance or guardian-authorisation steps where required by law.
Where a user is a child or lacks legal capacity to consent, Edge Healthtech will obtain parent or legal-guardian authorisation when required, unless another lawful exception applies. A parent or guardian may contact us about a child's information. EdgeBot should not be used to share a child's full address, school location, government identification number or other unnecessary identifying details.
6. AI-Generated Responses
EdgeBot uses automated or AI-assisted technology to respond to questions. Messages may be processed by Edge Healthtech systems and, where necessary, a contracted AI or cloud service provider. AI responses can be incomplete, outdated or incorrect. EdgeBot does not make medical diagnoses and does not replace a doctor, nurse, counsellor, parent, guardian or emergency service.
We will update this Policy to identify material AI providers and relevant international processing locations once those arrangements are finalised.
7. When We Share Information
We do not sell personal information and do not share it for targeted advertising. We may share limited information with:
- Cloud, hosting, database, email, file-storage, analytics, security and AI service providers acting under contract or instruction.
- Professional advisers, auditors or insurers where reasonably necessary and subject to confidentiality.
- Government authorities, regulators, courts or law-enforcement bodies when disclosure is legally required.
- A successor organisation if Edge Healthtech is reorganised, merged or transferred, subject to appropriate safeguards.
- Other persons when the user gives clear permission.
8. International Data Transfers
Some service providers may store or process information outside Nigeria. Where this occurs, Edge Healthtech will use a lawful transfer mechanism and reasonable contractual, organisational and technical safeguards. The final provider list and transfer locations must be confirmed before publication.
9. Data Retention
We retain personal information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, to provide the Service, protect users, resolve disputes, meet legal duties and maintain security. Account information is normally kept while the account is active. Chats, quiz records, support messages and security logs are reviewed under Edge Healthtech's retention schedule and may be deleted or anonymised when no longer needed.
When an account is deleted, we will delete or de-identify associated personal information within a reasonable period, except information that must be retained for legal, fraud-prevention, security, dispute-resolution or backup purposes. Residual backup copies will be removed through the normal backup cycle and will not be used for ordinary business purposes.
10. User Choices and Rights
Subject to applicable law, users may:
- Request access to personal information and information about how it is used.
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
- Delete individual chats, clear chat history or request account deletion where supported.
- Request erasure, restriction or portability of information.
- Object to certain processing or withdraw consent.
- Ask for human review of a decision made solely by automated processing.
- Unsubscribe from optional newsletters, reminders and promotional messages.
- Complain to Edge Healthtech or the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
Requests may be sent to support@edgehealthtech.org. We may need to verify identity before completing a request, especially where the request involves a child or sensitive information.
11. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical and organisational safeguards designed to protect information, including access controls, authentication, encryption where appropriate, secure hosting, monitoring, backups and staff or contractor confidentiality duties. No online service is completely secure, so users should protect their login details and immediately report suspected unauthorised access.
12. Safety and Safeguarding
EdgeBot is intended to be supportive, but it is not an emergency or safeguarding service. Edge Healthtech may develop procedures for content that indicates a serious and immediate safety concern. Where legally permitted and reasonably necessary to protect life or prevent serious harm, limited information may be reviewed or disclosed to an appropriate person or authority. This process must be formally approved and implemented before publication.
13. Cookies
We may use necessary cookies for login, security and preferences, and optional cookies for analytics or service improvement. Where required, users will be given a cookie choice. Disabling necessary cookies may prevent parts of the Service from working.
14. Third-Party Links
The Service may link to websites or resources that Edge Healthtech does not control. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies.
15. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when the Service, providers or legal requirements change. We will publish the revised date and provide additional notice where a change materially affects users.
16. Contact and Complaints
